Background to the project
RISE Ability Rights and Diversity and Disability are united by a single goal to make the settlement easier for newly arrived refugees with disabilities. We designed an icon-based online website that brings information to you in minimal English. The aim is to be a friendly website for those of Non-English Speaking Background, an online resource of:
Complex case supports from Migrant Resource Centres.
For more information and background on refugees and asylum seekers with disabilties please dowload the PDF of the RISE advocacy booklet.
This project would not be possible without the support of the advisory committee:
Christian Astourian DnD
Jacinta Bongiorno IPC Health
Janet Curtain DnD

Diversity & Disability (DnD) program is a disability self-advocacy program. We provide support to people with a disability from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background to speak for themselves and achieve their full potential as valued citizens of the community. We also develop and run self advocacy groups and community outreach events.
RISE: Refugees, Survivors and Ex-Detainees (RISE) is the first and only refugee and asylum seeker
welfare and advocacy organisation in Australia, entirely governed by refugees, asylum
seekers, and ex-detainees.
RISE was established to increase refugee and asylum seekers’ participation and enable
refugees to build new lives by providing advice, engaging in community development,
enhancing opportunity and campaigning for refugee/asylum seeker rights.
